Few bars anywhere can open their doors and have the impact to a city and the local industry like An Púcán Whiskey Bar. The people of Galway City have loved this Irish bar since pouring their first Pint just over 2 year ago. Holding onto the well-established local name of An Púcán, the new team brought with them a newly designed bar, a stylish atmosphere and a new vision on the Irish Pub.
Yet somehow they have magically managed to hold onto that traditional Irish charm. What you get in An Púcán is a friendly welcome and great service everything you would expect from an Irish Bar of its standard.
Over the last two years we have been lucky enough to enjoy An Púcán Whiskey Bar on many an occasion. Try sampling their food menu and selection of draught & bottled beers. There is more than enough craft beer to keep even the most diehard hipster happy.
A passion for Irish Whiskey
But for us what is really special about An Púcán is their passion for whiskey, particularly Irish whiskey. Showcasing this passion they have held some amazing tasting events in partnership with the likes of Teeling Whiskey, The Irish Whiskey Society, Jameson Whiskey and Celtic Whiskey Shop to name a few. An Púcán launched their very own Teeling Whiskey Distillery Single Cask Irish Whiskey in 2015, which won Best Irish Single Cask Whiskey a The Irish Whiskey Awards 2015.
Irish Whiskeys & Food Pairings
Recently we ventured to An Púcán on a cold December night. We greeted with a warm smile and took a corner of the bar with whiskey in mind. The Whiskey Trail Food tasting platter is a perfect way to enjoy some lovely Irish whiskeys while exploring the varying flavours in combination with the food.
We tried Tullamore Dew 12, Teelings Single Malt and Jameson Black Barrel. This was paired with Galway Bay smoked salmon with brown bread, a selection of Irish cheese, chocolate brownie, and shot of pickle juice. This is almost like a little mini deluxe package from us at The Whiskey Trail, a nice little treat for ourselves.
An Púcán has well and truly reinforced its place with the hearts of Galwegians (people of Galway). Visitors and locals alike have been impressed with their strive for excellence. While being a driving force in the establishment of the Galway Whiskey Trail and Standing shoulder to shoulder with the great bars of Galway city.
If you only have a short time in Galway city An Púcán is a must for any visitor.
