Different people have different tastes when it comes to pairing food with alcohol. Everybody is aware of the well known cheese and wine combo, but the question is, what goes well with whiskey? There are a number of suggestions when it comes to whiskey pairings.
Whiskey and Chocolate
The type of whiskey will depend on the type of chocolate you need to pair it with. From reading the post on http://liquor.com about whiskey pairing with chocolate, it is clear that you need the right whiskey to go with the right chocolate for the pairing to work. One example of a whiskey and chocolate pairing that they mention is a 70% cacao dark chocolate with Irish redbreast 12 year old whiskey. Sounds delicious!

According to http://matchingfoodandwine.com light fragrant whiskies with a touch of sweetness pair very well with smoked salmon, especially wild salmon and other delicate smokes.
The Irishman single malt whiskey is also said to work well with smoked salmon as a pairing. This whiskey is a triple distilled expression which is aged in both sherry and bourbon casks for over 10 years before bottling.
Whiskey and Cheese
Like cheese and wine, cheese is also a suggestion for whiskey pairings. Like chocolate, it depends what type of cheese you have to determine the type of whiskey to pair it with. According to the http://www.cheeserank.com, one should look for a fruity, spicy or woody whiskey to go with cheddar cheese, parmesan cheese is paired well with peated or spicy whiskies and a bourbon or sherry-casked Irish whiskey would be matched with goats cheese.
