Prizefight Irish Whiskey Review
Prizefight is a unique Irish whiskey that was distilled in Cork at West Cork Distillery and aged in barrels sourced from Tamworth Distilling in New Hampshire, USA. It is a blend of ten year old single malt and four year old grain. This whiskey punches above its weight though it does it in style. This smooth, mellow whiskey is a hit with The Whiskey Trail crew. Check out the story behind this delicious whiskey here.
The nose is delicate yet bursting with tropical fruits such as pineapple and mangoes with flickers of lightly roasted almonds, ginger and a tickle of spice add to the intrigue. Touches of vanilla and mint lead you to believe this whiskey has a lot more to say.
Initially there is a lot of similarity between the palate and the nose but all these aromas develop further on the palate. The pineapple and mango do appear but with the addition of limes, honey, sultanas and kaffir lime leaf all with a hint of brown pepper which increases the depth of this whiskey.
This is an elegant whiskey, mellow yet at the same time lively. A cheeky whiskey with many layers to discover.
