This Month we are delighted here at The Whiskey Trail, to welcome, Teeling’s ‘Spirit Of Dublin Poitín’ as our Whiskey of the month, this October. The highly anticipated Teeling distillery opened their doors in 2015, in the historic whiskey district of The Liberties. Much to our delighted as it is within walking distance of Adventure Trails HQ.
This summer, in the month of August saw Teelings release their very first Dublin whiskey. To celebrate this they auctioned off the very first bottle for charities in the Liberties district. This month will see the general release of this mature whiskey.
This contemporary bottling of Poitín is somewhat unique, as it is an uncasked spirit. Poitín is purely Irish, and means small pot, usually referring to a spirit distilled in a small pot still and then bottled. Poitín is a clear Irish spirit, famous for its alcohol strength and its illegality.
Once upon a time it was illegal to distil poitín but now it can be, but in a licenced distillery with a maximum alcohol content of 65%. This particular poitín is 52.5% and triple distilled, giving it a beautifully smooth body. It is a blend of malted and unmalted barley which gives it a lovely sweet touch.
Jack Teeling, Founder of the Teeling Whiskey Company, comments: “Poitín is at the heart of all true Irish spirits and will be the base for future whiskey releases from our new distillery. This Spirit of Dublin bottling gives people a sneak peek at what our new distillery is producing as well as showcasing a modern version of our unique and traditional white Irish spirit.”
Join us this month on one of our trails around this great city and try this exclusive bottling of ‘The Spirit of the Dublin’, whilst also receiving an upgrade to the Teelings Trinity tasting at their distillery.
