The Jameson Caskmates is a collaboration between Jameson and Cork’s Franciscan Well brewery. Barrels used for Jameson whiskey were taken to the Franciscan Well Brewery to age their craft stout in. Once used they were sent back to the distillery where Jameson whiskey was put in and spent a period of time soaking up those wonderful stout flavours.
A delicious marriage between stout and whiskey. The nose has punchy aromas of apricots, banana and damsons which lead into a hoppy, herbal nose with a chocolate treacle edge.
Fruit spice hits the palate with unripe damsons and tar like notes. The effect of the stout finish becomes apparent with touches of hops and cocoa. This whiskey does not hide, it stands tall.
One for those who like an IPA’s or chocolate stout, though this would also lend itself well for cocktails.
Aromas of coffee, malt, cocoa, candied citrus, toffee and a rye like spice accompanied by light notes of honey, dried fruit, oatmeal-like grain and brown sugar. All-in-all a nice nose indeed.
Notes of hazelnut, cinnamon, citrus, roasted malt, cocoa, spice, honey waltz on through followed by lighter notes of fruit, brown sugar and coffee with cream. It’s amazing what cask finishes can do to give a new edge to a familiar whisky.
A lasting dissolve of malt, cocoa, citrus, coffee and a bit of earthiness.
