The Whistler is range of single malts produced by Boann Distillery located in the beautiful Boyne Valley.
“Whistled into life one fabled New Year’s Eve, this whiskey has notes of family tradition and history.”
This Irish single malt represents an award winning offering from the relatively new, family owned Boann Distillery located in County Meath, Ireland. This liquid was originally distilled at the Cooley Distillery, and aged for five years in ex-Bourbon oak barrels before being transferred to Oloroso Sherry casks for a further two years of maturation at the Boann distillery site.
Floral notes dominate the first whiff, quickly followed by the aromas of a wild country garden with some tropical fruit notes. Dog rose, lilacs, sweet pea mingle gently with notes of honeycomb, dandelion, ripe banana skin, leafy parsley and unripe pineapple.
The palate is at first a little drier than the nose would suggest, with a milk like mouth feel. Spiced honeycomb dances with butterscotch and vanilla. A chilli kick leads you into a faint blueberry, smoke finish.
The Blue Note is a well-made whiskey with a full body and best enjoyed at room temperature. The Boann Distillery will be releasing more liquid over the coming years. I am really looking forward to tasting what they bring to the market, whiskies entirely distilled and matured in-house over the will be a real treat to savour.
Warm and inviting with autumnal aromas, dried fruits, dates, figs, fruit cake, salted caramels and mocha.
Fresh and fruit laden with flavours of sultanas, dried apricots, lemon cake and orange peel. The finish is more savoury with salty, bready notes, Yet balanced, and showing excellent breadth of flavour and texture for its age.
This drop has a short finish that is dry with some spicy oakiness. The effect of the Oloroso cask finishing is spot-on, water injects citrus notes, and hints of orange into this dram. The result is certainly worthy of another pour.
