Clonakilty Single Batch Double Oak whiskey has been finished in double oak casks since its conception, but now the team have decided to highlight the fact! A premium product matured in ex-bourbon casks, it is finished in virgin American oak; and shaved, toasted and re-charred ex-red wine European oak casks (NEOC)*.
This makes it the world’s first Irish whiskey to be finished in a NEOC cask.
The new label is specifically designed to make the finish clearer and tie in more consistently with the other cask finish series:
Clonakilty Port Cask Finish
Clonakilty Single Grain Bordeaux Cask Finish
Clonakilty Single Batch Double Oak Finish is the flagship of Clonakilty’s cask finish range and is proving popular among connoisseurs looking for a high-quality affordable product in the Irish whiskey market. In 2019 it won double gold at the San Francisco Spirits Competition, considered one of the most prestigious judging events in the whiskey world. It is a key example of Clonakilty Distillery’s dedication to creating new and exciting cask finished whiskeys.
“We are incredibly proud of this whiskey and the numerous awards it has won. We feel that our new label better reflects the care that has gone into producing the complex finish and taste of the end product.”
Clonakilty Distillery Founder, Michael Scully
*NEOC — New Era Of Cask
NEOC are ex-red wine barrels from the Bordeaux region of France. They are hand-shaved by traditional coopers, and re-toasted according to each individual distiller’s specification.

Clonakilty Single Batch Whiskey Tasting Notes
An Irish non-chill filtered, triple distilled whiskey and finished at the Atlantic Warehouse of the Clonakilty Distillery. This delicious single batch blend is bottled at 43.6% and is the first whiskey from the Clonakilty Distillery.
NOSE
Soft spices, vanilla, fresh cut grass, slightly perfumed, ripe apple/pear notes. Fresh leather tones. The colour is light and echoes through the liquid. It might be my imagination (or good marketing) but I get a hint of sea salt.
PALATE
Sweet warm spices with a subtle hint of white pepper and ginger. Fresh cut grass, hazelnut and almond notes complement a delicious sweetness. It made me think of eating a toffee apple at the coast in west cork.
FINISH
This is a well-balanced Irish whiskey with spices lingering on the palate. I think the use of the double barrel finish adds a complexity to the flavour. The wood shavings mingle with the charded oak to give a finish of candy popcorn or perhaps a toffee apple.
