Popular whiskey brand launches a new triple blend celebrating the Caribbean’s forgotten Irish heritage
Tullamore D.E.W., the Original Triple Blend Irish Whiskey, launches Tullamore D.E.W. XO Rum Cask Finish, a triple distilled, triple blend, triple wood matured Irish whiskey finished in the finest rum casks for a smoothly satisfying flavour with layers of sweetness and tropical notes.

As part of its global advertising platform Beauty of Blend, Tullamore D.E.W. created XO Rum Cask Finish to celebrate its role as the champion of blend in all forms and to commemorate Ireland’s unique role in the pioneering of rum production in the Caribbean.
While the earliest records of whiskey making are found in Ireland, what is less well known is that the Irish also played a role in the early development of rum in the Caribbean. With the arrival of 50,000 Irish to the Caribbean in 16th and 17th centuries, their skills in whiskey distilling were blended with local knowledge, helping to further the advancement of the burgeoning Caribbean rum business.

The Irish influence is still evident in the cultural blend that is the Caribbean way of life today. This is probably most notable in Jamaica, where Irish Jamaicans make up 25% of the population, and Montserrat, which is nicknamed The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean, both for its resemblance to coastal Ireland and for the Irish ancestry of many of its inhabitants.

Reflecting this unique history, the product packaging is inspired by antique Caribbean trade maps, passport stamps and travel journals. The Tullamore D.E.W. XO Rum Cask Finish bottle is designed to stand out among whiskeys and emphasize the blending of Irish heart with Caribbean soul.

John Quinn, Global Brand Ambassador for Tullamore D.E.W., said: “At our Tullamore distillery, we are constantly experimenting with our whiskey making. XO Rum Cask Finish was just one of many trials, but immediately stood out to our whiskey makers as being something truly special.”
He continued: “Many styles of Caribbean rum were tested, but carefully selected first fill XO Caribbean rum casks, previously used to age Guyana rum, imparted distinctive sweet tropical fruit and warm spice flavours to our original blend. The combination of Irish heart and Caribbean soul balance beautifully.”
