Powers Three Swallows is predominantly aged in ex-bourbon casks, with a small amount of ex-Oloroso sherry barrels used. This whiskey is a revival of the old Powers style with a modern twist. It was designed to capture, embody the 21st century Pot Still whiskey style, a style that made Powers famous.
This whiskey has a lovely nutty nose. Barley notes pop along with grapefruit, figs, spice and orange zest. A faint hint of mint lends this to the being a gentle easy going whiskey. This is a crowd pleasing whiskey, as it does not over power the palate. With a soft body and smooth fruit notes this is sure to appeal to many. The aromas from the nose slip onto the palate with touches of orange blossom, earthy tones and light toffee.
Q: Have you any particular favourite Irish Whiskeys?Gordon D’Arcy – Irish rugby international
At the moment I’m drinking Powers Three Swallow – a really great example of a single pot still whiskey. It is spicy but not overpowering and has a lovely smooth creamy finish (thanks to the single pot still distillation).
An accessible whiskey that keeps the powers brand at its heart. Three Swallow Release is a modern expression of what the original POWERS Whiskey tasted like back in the days of our John’s Lane distillery. This quintessential style of whiskey, Single Pot Still is exclusive to Ireland, and is made from a mash of malted and un-malted barley, then triple distilled in traditional copper pot stills.
Pot Still spice combines with crisp barley character. Delicate herbs give way to green banana and grapefruit while a nutty note of marzipan reflects the wood contribution of specially selected casks.
In true Pot Still style, an initial taste delivers smooth mouth-coating barley followed by an eruption of green apple and citrus notes. Herbs and spicy flavor are complemented by a touch of cedar wood for extra complexity.
Spicy sweetness gives way to Pot Still barley character balanced with a hint of sherry and leading to a crisp cereal finish with toasted oak notes.
