This Teeling Whiskey Release Limited Edition 28 Year Old Single Malt – Is Available Exclusively from The Celtic Whiskey Shop
Teeling Whiskey Company announced a special release of 4,000 bottles of a Teeling 28-year-old single malt, that is to be exclusively sold through the Celtic Whiskey Shop. This 28-Year-Old Single Malt is one of the oldest Irish single malts to be released, sitting in the upper echelons of age with the Teeling 30 and 33-year-old single malts.
This expression is quite interesting as it is the generational continuation of the original lightly peated Teeling 21, which became the World’s Best Single Malt Teeling 24, now released with 4 years extra sauternes cask maturation. These three expressions come from the same batch of 1991 distillate that has now been maturing for over 28 years, firstly in ex-bourbon barrels and finished for the past 7-8 years in sauternes wine casks.

Sauterne Wine Casks
The Sauterne wine cask come from the Sauterne region, a subregion of the Bordeaux wine region. This wine came to fame with the interest of Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd president of the United States of America. He was very involved in the French wine business during his time as the American ambassador in France.
There are a few laws for the Sauterne wine. First of all it has to come from the region. Also it must have at least 13% AVB and a high sweetness. The French Sauternes wine casks come from the Sauternais region of the Graves section in Bordeaux. Sauternes is made from Sémillon, Sauvignon blanc, and Muscadelle grapes. The grapes are partially raisined, resulting in concentrated and distinctively flavored wines which add complexity to this wonderful whiskey.

Teeling 28 Year Old Single Malt Limited Edition Whiskey Tasting Notes:
The Teeling Family have pushed the boundaries of amazing cask finishes not only in Ireland but on an international stage too. Building on the major international success of the Teeling 24 Year Old Single Malt which won the World’s Best Single Malt in 2019 at the World Whiskies Awards. This special bottling was first distilled in 1991 and matured in Bourbon casks then allowed marry in Sauterne wine cask, allowing for a wholly unique Irish whiskey taste experience.
NOSE
This 28 year old whiskey is layered with intricate and delicate notes. It’s not all sweet and spice, but instead has a complex nose of white peach, fresh cut grass, and a wisp of hay field smoke. Everything is subtle, white chocolate mingles with hints lightly toasted oak I’m told it’s almonds. Whatever it is, it’s delicious.
PALATE
The palate is silky smooth, with a mouthfeel like the texture of a banana smoothie. But its more like garden fruits, nectarines, peaches, honey and granola. I live by the sea and get a faint hint of smoked sea salt. It tastes like a bar of smoked almond and sea salt dark chocolate, this is decadent. Sit back and let this layers fade away into subtle spice.
FINISH
The finish is long, long and longer again. But it’s mellow and intricate with a continuation of sweet spice and a lovely raisined sweets which comes from the Sauterne wine. If you haven’t guessed I love it!!!
