Limited Edition Special Reserve Bottled at 46% abv and Non-Chill Filtered
Hyde No.9 came about following a cask sourcing expedition to the Douro Valley to handpick the best port casks available. Conor and the team traveled to the Douro valley before Covid19 struck to source these casks directly from a Port vineyard in the village of Pinhão in Northern Portugal. The fact that these vintage, juicy, Tawny port casks came fresh straight form the vineyard to Hyde Whiskeys bonded warehouse to put their single malt whiskey into for six months has had a HUGE effect on the final taste.
This Single Malt is made form 100% Irish Barley grain and was distilled on a copper pot still by West Cork Distillers. There is no age statement on the bottle but I’m told it is a minimum of 8 year old single malt. Currently you can only buy this release online as this is a very limited edition release of only 800 bottles. There might be a second batch of this limited release next year if this expression goes well. I’m sure this will sell out fast!!!

Hyde No.09 Tasting Notes
This Single Malt Irish whiskey is tripled distilled on a traditional copper pot still from 100% malted Irish barley. It is originally matured for at least 8 years in 200 litre flame charred, ex-Bourbon oak casks sourced from a Bourbon distillery in Kentucky, U.S.A. before being transferred into juicy 200L, first fill, vintage, Tawny PORT oak casks from the village of Pinhão on the Douro Valley river in Northern Portugal, for a further 9 months of cask finishing. This is a whiskey to sit with and discover it’s complexity’s.
The colour of this whiskey is phenomenal, it reminds me of a dark rose obviously a huge influence from the port casks. Like a sweet fruit cake you’ll discover a depth of dark fruits, grapes, raisin and spices. The spices are cinnamon and nutmeg, these are layered over berries. I got a hint of strawberry cheesecake here, which for me develops on the palate.
A big punch of flavour of grapes and more raisin this defines Tawny PORT character of this whiskey. Blackberries appear with green apples, honey, citrus, spice, dried fruits, black pepper and soft buttery vanilla. I get a sweet berry flavor again that reminds me of a fruit of the forest cheesecake. The malty floral notes linger on the palate like a crumbly biscuit base.
Medium to long with raisins, red grapes, malty biscuit, light spice, giving a soft lingering finish.
